Design as a pillar of your business

Over the years, design has become increasingly present in our day-to-day lives as part of the services and products we use.

As a discipline of study, design was recognised in the 1970s. It became part of general education and aimed at setting a process for knowing, thinking and acting in a designerly manner.

50 Years of an ever changing designer role

Through graphic design, companies became acquainted with the role of designers by creating their visual brand and consequent marketing collateral pieces. Later, with the internet taking over the world, those skills gradually transferred to the digital domain, and the Web designer became the new kid in town. In the last two decades, we've had a variety of new sub-disciplines appear - We now have UX designers, UI designers, and product designers, among others.

Over the years, we have seen an increased interest in bringing design to the forefront of initiatives by companies and organisations of all shapes and sizes.

Focusing on today's tech and digital products, it comes as no surprise to see startup designer founders taking a seat on the table and leading companies through their design thinking vision. The culture of building it first with the work of engineers in which design comes last is something that has its days counted.

A lot of companies have become aware that users are humans who are increasingly more tech-savvy and will only get satisfied or choose a product over a competitor by their better user experience - It's no longer up to just building software anymore.

More recently, with tools such as Figma or Canva becoming popular for non-designers, awareness and consideration for the discipline have also risen.

How we see design at Atlanttico

We believe design should come first. It possesses a wide-range understanding of the world, listening to and connecting with everyone.

The designer role has evolved from someone who only cares about putting together visually appealing compositions into what it is today - a designer who applies design thinking to his work, feeding into innovation as a core engine, bringing all stakeholders together. Today's designer enables teams to come together and gives them a voice during all stages of the process where you empathise, define, ideate, prototype, test and implement.

At Atlanttico, we strive for good design, functional and well-considered. We design with a holistic approach, understanding what the discipline brings to your business as a fundamental pillar.

If this is a topic that resonates with how you see design being part of your company, we’d love to have a chat.
